First impressions count, so make sure you dress appropriately for the role and the company you’re meeting with. When in doubt, go a step up from what your company wears on a daily basis. Check the company website/LinkedIn to get an idea of the company style. 2. Wear simple clothes in neutral colors. This is not the time for high tops, over-the-top patterns, or excessive jewelry. 3. Shoes are important! Make sure they are clean, polished and in good condition. 4. Pay attention to your body language. Give a firm handshake, smile, sit up straight, and don’t slouch. 5. Make sure you know your CV and can provide examples or more information when asked. 6. Make sure you are punctual. If the office is in an area you’re not familiar with, try driving around for a day. 7. Answer the questions using the Situation, Task, Action, Result method, also known as the STAR method. You will sound more credible if you can prove that you have the experience listed on your resume. 8. Show practical, data-driven evidence of your experience. It’s no use saying you’ve delivered on KPIs if you can’t back them up with numbers. 9. “Why do you want to work for our company?” , “Tell me about yourself?” Always answer questions like or “What are your strengths and weaknesses?” 10. Career and career research. Good places to find more are annual reports, industry-specific media companies, company websites/Glassdoor/LinkedIn. 11. Anticipate the interviewee’s concerns and reservations and prepare powerful responses. 12. Bring a notebook and pen to record the interview. Ask the interviewer if they are happy for you to take notes if necessary. 13. Prepare questions to ask the interviewer. If it helps, write it down in your notebook. Try not to ask questions that have already been answered during the interview. 14. Be assertive and take charge of the conversation. Remember, you also want to make sure the job and company are right for you. 15. Make sure your answers are positive and never talk negatively about your previous company. 16. Understand your unique selling points and make sure you communicate them with confidence. 17. Don’t expect your salary in negotiations. If asked, “My salary is commensurate with my experience and I believe you will offer a competitive salary in today’s market.” Interviews should only be conducted upon receipt of an offer. 18. Action questions are common, so make sure you have good examples to share. You don’t have to write it down, but it’s a good reminder to think about the situation ahead of time 19. Be yourself, don’t oversell. 20. Send a thank-you email reiterating your interest in the position within 24 hours of the interview.
