Along with eastern Canada (and possibly the Midwest), the East Coast of the United States claims to have the most beautiful fall colors in the world. One of the few places we feature here that is truly coastal, Maine’s mostly Atlantic coast claims some of the most beautiful fall foliage destinations in the East, where fall leaves shine against a beautiful backdrop. Mountain peaks in front of the ocean on the East Coast set the perfect scene for you. Acadia National Park is a popular choice, with many scenic views, such as Cadillac Mountain, accessible by road. Camden Hills in the Midcoast is another great spot; don’t miss the prospect of fall foliage on Mount Battie, for example. Another reason to go to Maine for a fall hike is the food. You’ll be hungry after the hike, so grab a Maine lobster roll or seafood chowder to warm and fill your stomach. No trip to Maine is complete without delicious food.
New Hampshire’s White Mountains are New England’s largest range, rising above 6,000 feet in what is known and revered as the Presidential Range. In addition to the sweeping appearance, they also carry some of the best fall colors anywhere on earth, with a long display given the size of the chain and the height of the top. Take a scenic hike on the President’s Trail as you admire the colorful forests on either side or hike to the many waterfalls and waterfalls in the White Mountain National Forest, as well as in and around the beautiful area of Franconia Notch State Park, to combine white water and fire. There are plenty of places to hike along its length, from Connecticut’s Hanging Hills and Ragged Mountain to Massachusetts’ Pocumtuck and Holyoke Ranges.

Shenandoah’s rich spectrum of hardwood forests and beautiful Blue Ridge scenery make it one of the best national parks in the country for leaf-finding adventures, bar none. You’re guaranteed to see some white-tailed Shenandoah deer on the summit, fall corn-fat, maybe even a beautiful fur coat.
Connecting Shenandoah National Park and the Smoky Mountains, the nearly 470-mile Blue Ridge Parkway offers stunning views of the Appalachians.
