The fall season is upon us and we couldn’t be more excited. Forget PSL! One of the reasons we moved to NYC this year is to have easy access to the country’s most beautiful fall foliage.

In addition to the obvious places like New England or the Blue Ridge Parkway, we’ve compiled a list that includes other lesser-known fall destinations that are also worth visiting this season.

Portland is the underdog on this list. When we lived there, we couldn’t believe that Portland’s beautiful and lush landscape could match its fall colors. We felt like we missed out on everything.
Not only can you enjoy the foliage, but many of the city’s best restaurants offer the autumn harvest, and breweries get freshly picked hops to work with. You can take a short trip to the Columbia River Gorge to admire the waterfalls among the fiery flowers.
Local council: Autumn brings back the rain, so pack the fly. Pdxers carry windbreakers instead of umbrellas.
Fall In Vermont: Best Places For A Foliage Road Trip
Leavenworth is a Bavarian style town located just over 2 hours from Seattle. This is a great place to visit in the fall for two reasons. First, it’s one of the best places in the state to see fall foliage. Go to Lake Wenatchee to see the bright yellow trees reflected in the water.
Second, it is home to one of the most extravagant Oktoberfests in the United States. So head here to drink beer and enjoy the colors of the Cascade Mountains.
Leavenworth is also a great place for rock climbing. We have climbed here once and would definitely like to return.
The most popular viewpoint here is Skyline Drive, which gives you 165 miles of scenic streets to see the vibrant colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

They also host the annual Shenandoah Fall Foliage Bike Festival where you can choose from 11 different rides to enjoy the view.
Go if: You’re looking for a quiet place to relax. This island on Lake Huron is the perfect place for you.
It’s full of Victorian architecture, and since cars are banned on the island, you’re literally forced to slow down. The island resort is also a National Historic Landmark.
Local tip: If you can’t make it to the island, try visiting Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. If you visit in late September/early October, you’re sure to find beautiful, vibrant reds, oranges and golds. Porcupine Mountains State Wildlife Park is a great place to explore and it also has many waterfalls.
Georgia City Is Among The Best Places In The U.s. To Visit This Fall
The Great Smoky Mountains are known for having some of the best fall foliage in the United States and one of the longest fall foliage seasons.
They can appear as early as mid-September and can last until mid-November, although October is the best time to visit.
You get the full range of flowers in the park, with more than 100 species of trees and the Blue Ridge Parkway, which puts it on the map as one of the most scenic drives in the country.
Local tip: Clingman Dome is the highest point in the state and a great place to see an endless sea of fall colors.

You have a lot of different options for viewing fall foliage in the Denver area. Resorts outside the city will begin to see color first before entering the city.
It’s also a great place for beer lovers, with Denver’s Oktoberfest, the Denver Beer Festival and the Great American Beer Festival in the fall.
Local tip: For a truly magnificent sight, head to Rocky Mountain National Park for golden canopies of quaking aspens.
We are heading here in October and couldn’t be more excited! Beautiful fall hues can be found in Acadia National Park, contrasting with the deep blue ocean.

Local Tip: If you have extra time, you can also take the 3-hour trip to Portland, Maine. Mount Bradbury is a popular spot for foliage and you can get your fill of lobsters and fireflies.
Fall in New York can be overshadowed by Christmas celebrations, but we love how Central Park is completely transformed in the fall.
Whether you want to climb the Top of the Rock for a bird’s-eye view, hunt down the secrets of Central Park, or enjoy a nice dinner at one of the nearby restaurants, you should definitely find time to do it while you’re in town. This will be our second fall season here and we can’t wait!
Local advice: Don’t limit yourself to the south side of the park. This is the busiest and most touristic area. Head north to explore deeper into the park and find a quiet spot for yourself.

It’s one of the most iconic places in Vermont, and it’s ridiculously picturesque. It covers 115 acres and has fields, gardens, paths, woods and ponds.
